The first two weeks of summer programs at OCIS are off to a fantastic start! Students and staff in our ESY, Jumpstart, and Summer STEM programs have been busy learning, exploring, and having fun as we kick off the summer season.

Congratulations to our OCIS 4th Marking Period Honor Roll students!

That’s a wrap on the 2024-2025 school year at OCIS! This week, we celebrated our students and all they’ve accomplished. On Thursday afternoon, our 8th graders were honored during the annual promotion ceremony as they prepared to take their next steps toward high school and beyond. Earlier that day, they were cheered on by younger students during our traditional clap out — a special sendoff marking the end of their time at the Intermediate School. From all of us at OCIS — have a relaxing, fun-filled summer. We look forward to welcoming students back in September!

REMINDER: The 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony will take place today, June 17 at 4 p.m. on the field at the corner of 18th and Bay Avenue. Please have students arrive by 3:30 p.m. and enter through the front of the school. Doors will open at 3:15 p.m. Please make sure students dress appropriately according to the dress code and outdoor setting. (Ex: sundresses, skirts, dress pants, nice shorts, polo shirts, button-down, collared shirts, and flat shoes.) Please do not bring artificial noisemakers, such as air horns to the ceremony.

Last week, our 8th grade students enjoyed an unforgettable Sun & Fun Day, sponsored by the OCPTA! From carnival-style games and raffle giveaways to an afternoon filled with sunshine and outdoor activities, it was the perfect way to celebrate the end of the school year and their final days at OCIS. A huge thank you to our amazing PTA for sponsoring and organizing the entire event, running the activity stations, and making sure our students were well fed and hydrated all day long. Your time and dedication made the day so special! Special thanks to Kerri Janto for capturing the excitement and energy of the day through the photos below. Our 8th graders still have a few more exciting days ahead before next week’s promotion ceremony, but this day was a fantastic way to celebrate their journey and accomplishments at OCIS!

Please join OCSD this Memorial Day weekend in honoring military members who made the ultimate sacrifice. OCSD will hold a staff in-service day and be closed for students on Friday, May 23, and will be closed Monday, May 26, for the observance of Memorial Day.

June will be here before you know it— and with it comes extra help through New Jersey’s Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) Program for Kids. Eligible children will receive a Summer EBT card by mail, which can be used to purchase $120 worth of food at participating retailers. Visit ocsdnj.org/page/food-services
