Mrs. Ruffenach & Mrs. Pepe’s 5th grade classes, & Mrs. Duffey recently read “Winds of Hope” from their HMH Into Reading series, a nonfiction story about William Kamkwamba, who built a windmill to power his village in Malawi. Students learned about cause and effect and, created paper windmills to show the causes and effects from the story, and even tested them using wind power, just like William!

As September comes to a close, we recognize the importance of Suicide Awareness Month at OCIS.
Throughout the month, students contributed to a beautiful butterfly display in our lobby—each one uniquely designed as a symbol of hope, growth, and awareness. The green butterflies represent mental health and suicide awareness, reinforcing the message that no one is ever alone. Thank you to our counselors, Mrs. Uhrich and Mrs. Conover, for organizing and reminding our students of the trusted adults in our school who are always here to help.
